You are seeking to have drafted a tailored Cohabitation/Marriage Agreement (also sometimes known as a prenup) to govern your relationship under the terms and framework agreed upon between you and your partner. This may include property (pre-relationship and/or future separate or joint property), income (such as employment, share options, bonuses, self employment), spousal support, or other issues.

Michelle offers a unique and innovative model — EXPRESS MEDIATION. This is a quick, simplified, condensed and cost-effective option for those folk who mostly agree but some legal assistance is needed to sort out the details and secure a legally binding agreement. Combining legal information with mediation, this ultra-streamlined, facilitated process is offered at a fraction of the cost and time of other processes. In Express Mediation, Michelle can help the parties to effectively resolve their outstanding matters in an expediated process; and if they come to an agreement, she can then draft the terms into a binding separation agreement– at a reduced cost.
Express mediation is only for situations where the parties want to cooperate, are not in a high-conflict scenario and do not have highly disputes facts or positions. Express Mediation is generally a self-represented process, so the parties attend without legal counsel. They are however encouraged to seek Independent Legal Advice.
Express Mediation Package Price: The TOTAL cost for this package, including pre-mediation, information-gathering and the mediation session, is $1750 (or $875 per person) plus GST.
**This is compared to the $2650 + tax for the more full mediation process which includes longer pre-mediation meetings and more mediation time.
** If you need more mediation time, additional follow-up sessions are available at my hourly rate of $400 per hour pro-rated.

Mediation can cover the following topics and lets you create your own outcomes:

The Express Mediation flat-rate fee includes Steps 1-4 (Step 5 Separation Agreement drafting is an additional cost):
Step 1: Shortened pre-mediation meetings of 15-20 minutes for each person. I meet with each person separately to understand the issues and dynamics from each parties’ perspective to ensure the process is suitable for you and tailored to your circumstances.
Step 2: Document/ information gathering:

Step 4: I will draft a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to log any agreement made along the way, and we will sign that at the end of the session.

Regular Mediation Process:

The first step in the mediation process is a 30-minute individual pre-mediation meeting with each of you separately. You may discuss your situation from your perspective and address any concerns or issues you might have. Pre-mediation meetings are required under the law, and allow me to learn about your family, answer questions and screen to ensure the process we engage in meets your needs.

Mediation Session (Initial):
The Initial Session is scheduled for up to 4 hours, and includes the time gathering, compiling and reviewing information prior to the mediation, and a written post-mediation summary if resolution is not reached. This component includes gathering information and attending mediation to resolve your family law issues together.
In order to tailor your process to meet your needs, Mediation is booked in sessions. The Initial Session is scheduled for up to 4 hours, and includes the time gathering and compiling information prior to the mediation.

Mediation Session (Follow-up)

Michelle offers practical and creative flat-rate services for separating couples, with a focus on providing clients alternatives to typical family law procedures, where the parties “lawyer up”.
Michelle’s Express Mediation package is an innovative process that provides a trimmed-down and cost-effective mediation process, to help separating couples who want to cooperate, don’t need full mediation or family lawyer services, but do need a bit of help sorting out the details and dealing with the legal side of their separation.
For individuals, Michelle also provides coaching and Strategy Sessions. This process provides critical legal advice to one of the parties during a separation to help them secure a fair, self-directed resolution to their separation, without the cost of having to fully “lawyer up”.
She also offers couples flat-rate options for drafting Cohabitation Agreements and Separation Agreements, as well as packages for Independent Legal Advice.
