2.5 years ago, I decided to make a bold (and scary) career shift. I decided to travel the world and adjust my legal practice to allow me to work anywhere at any time. I restricted my legal practice to only work that inspires me.
Two years ago I kick-started my new career model with @michellekinneylaw
I provide remote, accessible legal services all at a flat-rate. I focus on my passions:
- Fertility Law (providing legal assistance to those building intentional families through assisted reproduction),
- Cohabitation Agreements (aka prenups) so you can make your own relationship rules
- Cooperative Separation- to help you help yourself
- Express Mediation- to provide direct, speedy, affordable mediation assistance to those who can cooperate but just need a bit of help with the legal side of their separation.
I also am able to follow one of my biggest aspirations- “being the change”. I work on law reform and legal education initiatives respecting family law, family violence and fertility law. I currently am teaching the Family Law Course at the University of Victoria as well.
Now, I do most of my work from my home office, but sometimes from my Airbnb or hotel, and lately from the delightful “travelling office”- my glorious camper van Loo-Lou, pictured here.
After 15 years of being a more traditional lawyer, I am genuinely appreciative of my new-found capacity to balance freedom and adventure with the ability to support people in their legal journey with knowledge, efficiency, flexibility and passion.
