I, Michelle Kinney, serve clients all over beautiful British Columbia, by offering remote online legal services. Remote services include fertility law matters, cooperative separation in family law disputes, and cohabitation agreements. I also provide a unique model, Express Mediation, to help separating couples resolve their disputes quickly, fairly and efficiently outside of court.
I grew up in Super Sunny Summerland, on an apple orchard in the Okanagan, BC. In 1999, I moved to Victoria BC for university and received my law degree from the University of Victoria in 2006. I made Victoria, and Vancouver Island, home for myself and my son.
I am one of the architects of the British Columbia Family Law Act—I spent 7 years in the BC government creating and implementing the family law here. Our team was awarded the Exemplary Service Team Award by the Attorney General for the Family Law Act Reform Project.
I continue to give back to the public and the legal community in British Columbia through education initiatives, including through free public workshops on family law, and teaching the Family Law Course at the University of Victoria Law School.
I am endlessly inspired by the beauty of the province I call home- BC- and the island I live on – Vancouver Island.
As a settler, I, Michelle, am grateful to live, work and play on the traditional and unceded territory of the lək̓ʷəŋən speaking peoples, today known as the Esquimalt and Songhees Nations, Malahat, Pacheedaht, Scia’new, T’Sou-ke, W̱SÁNEĆ (Pauquachin, Tsartlip, Tsawout, Tseycum) peoples, the K’ómoks First Nation, including Sathloot, Sasitla, leeksun, Puledge, Cha’chae, and Tat’poos Peoples, Snuneymuxw, Snaw-naw-as, Quw’utsun, and Tla’amin First Nations.
